“Dark Soul...a lament within the core” is a dark fantasy romantic thriller set in Boston
The story revolves around Tom Bersorn and Kristaine Levaus, who are the main characters of the story. Both are good buddies as well as neighbours from their childhood. Tom was born as an orphan in an old lady’s house whom he calls granny, as his mother died while giving birth to him and sadly he has no news about his father. And Kristaine’s father is also dead before her birth and she lives with her mother and stepsister Mecanz. Gradually when they grow up, Kristaine starts to develop certain emotions for Tom which are completely new to her. And with passing time, she comes to realise that she’s in love with him. But Tom being quite unaware about this, falls in love with Jessica Strauss, his schoolmate. And then the night comes when Kristaine comes to know that Tom doesn’t loves her. She returns home depressed like some lost warrior. Here Tom proposes Jessica and returns home, encountering something strangely devilish within him in his bathroom. But he becomes careless and unsure about this as he had drunk some beer in the party and considers that he might be having a bad dream.
Several months passes by, Tom is now on a date with Jessica on the occasion of his birthday. But the moment he kisses her, he feels the strange things happening with him again. His skin starts ripping apart with blood oozing from his heart and he didn’t wanted the same thing occur to her which had happened with his friend Tobu. Tobu had lost his speech on seeing his monstrous form. So Jessica runs away from the spot on his pleadings. The next day he comes to know that Jessica hasn’t reached home and rumours of her kidnapping were spread all over the town. So worried, when he goes searching for her in the zombie walk, he feels the same urge to grab someone and gulp their flesh down his throat. So he runs home, hiding from the crowd. But Kristaine follows her suspiciously to his house and finds him turning into a zombie. But unfortunately Tom finds her peeping and bites her. Luckily she escapes from his house but is now in a fear that she too is going to turn into a zombie. And surprisingly, she finds the next morning that she hasn’t transformed. She goes to granny to complain about this and finds that granny knows this thing beforehand. She bursts out with anger but Tom and granny explain everything about it. She comes to know that Tom is cursed to be a monster which is why his mother never wanted to give him birth. And instead of knowing his truth, she forgives him and encases faith in him.
Now Tom comes to realise that there’s something wrong with the abandoned cottage in his school as he had seen several bad things connected to it. So he suspects that Jessica might be trapped in that. So when he reaches there with Kristaine and Mecanz, they find Henry, Tom’s pet bat who is similarly cursed to be a zombie called Vaele. Vaele confesses that Jessica is dead and his murderer is none other than Tom himself and that he had come to take him to his father. But neither Kristaine nor Mecanz believe him. Vaele injures Kristaine, Mecanz and starts taming Tom with his dark magic. Soon Kristaine revives her consciousness and saves both of them and lands in the zombie world through a spiral passage created by Vaele. And ultimately they escape out of that place after being chased by a horde of zombies and somehow arrive in the magical world of Oslan, where angels reside. Coincidentally Tom meets his dead mother Evey as an angel-ghost over there. She explains them how Tom’s father Garon tortured her and turned him into a monster. She also reveals that Kristaine’s father Aurson was an angel who helped her escape from Garon and got killed. Tom becomes desperate and abuses Garon for gifting him pain and suffering. The next morning, Kristaine saves Mervissa, the Oslan princess who was committing suicide as she had lost all her hopes to see her fiancé Prince Dervis, return back as he was captured under a ghost who had taken him for some purpose since seven long years. Several warriors had lost their lives struggling to bring him back. And while consoling, Kristaine promises her that she’s going to help her bring the prince back. Initially Tom and Mecanz don’t agree with her as they all were eager to return home but at the end they get committed to join this adventure after Mervissa begs them and asks for the favour. So they soon set out with Evey to Yinstrel, the land of fairies to seek weapons and meet the prince's parents that is the king and queen. The king warns them of the situations they are going to face and advises them to be alert all the way. Later Tom, Mecanz and Kristaine get on with a vulnerable odyssey with two fairies accompanying them to the ghost land.
Can Tom ever make out of this despair and lead a normal life again?
Will they be able to sustain this journey and save the prince?
